Many overseas Chinese are getting together to celebrate National Day by taking part in sporting events. Those living in South Africa have organized inaugural table tennis and football tournaments to show their national pride.

This is Johannesburg, one of the most populous cities in South Africa.

This is a land where many Chinese reside. Like others abroad, Chinese here are also running various businesses. Most are shopping malls.

Compatriots organized the inaugural "Oriental Cup" table tennis tournament, played at one of the biggest malls.

Over 100 Chinese table tennis amateurs from across the country were involved. The match-ups were exciting for spectators as table tennis is one of China's most popular sports.

Pan Xinchun, Counselor of Chinese Embassy in S. Africa,said, "Our Chinese compatriots have enhanced friendship and mutual affection by playing together. The tournament is also a dedication to the National Day."

Many then stepped onto the football pitch, where the "National Day" Cup football tournament kicked off.

Two teams, divided according to their geographic locations in China, were named "Double Dragons" and "Ambassadors". They enjoyed their matches in the host country of the 2010 World Cup.

4-1 was the final score in favor of the "Double Dragons". With success of the two events, organizers hope more sporting events will be held for overseas Chinese in the future.
